30 Day Yoga Challenge + The Importance of Kegels

I can’t believe it’s already March. We just kinda slid into Chapter 3 of 2018, didn’t we? This month is going to be a busy one for me. Between doctor appointments for the baby and I, finishing our taxes (ugh), and day-to-day chores, I’m going to need to carve out some me time. That’s why I’ve chosen to do a 30 day yoga challenge.

I love yoga. I’ve been practicing on and off since 2011. This year, I want to take my practice to the next level and really tap into the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits yoga has to offer. For the next 30 days, I’ll be challenging myself to get on the mat every single day. No excuses. Join me on Instagram where I’ll be posting updates and interesting tidbits from my experience with this challenge.

On another note, I have quite the story for you new moms out there. At my 6-Week postpartum appointment, my midwife recommended I do Kegels to restrengthen the muscles that had been weakened after L&D. I shrugged it off. I’m young, I thought, my body will recover on its own. Fast forward to last Saturday during Zumba class. We’re hip rolling and gyrating as one usually does in one’s Zumba class, when suddenly I felt like I was going to pee myself. I tried modifying my moves so that I didn’t shake so much but it was of no use. One twist to the right and I felt a slight trickle. Guys…I. WAS. MORTIFIED. I’m 21! I didn’t expect these kinds of problems for at least another 35 years. As I glimpsed into one of the mirrors lining the room, I thought two things:

  1. I’m glad I’m wearing black leggings.
  2. My midwife was right.

Moral of the story?

Shut up and do your Kegels.
